Visitors to Cycle 2008 at Earl's Court over the weekend were treated to a glimpse of the future of electric bikes as Powabyke showed off their latest innovation, with help from a familiar face!
With the aim of bringing alternative transport within easy reach of the average
commuter, the new X-byke makes electric powered biking a true 21st century method of transport that's environmentally conscious, cost effective and effortless - giving riders the power to be free.
With congestion, charges and tube strikes, navigating London is not easy at the best of times, so the X-byke is expected to be a hit with commuters in the capital who are aiming for freedom of the city. Powabyke were delighted that their special guest "Boris" joined their stand at Cycle 2008 to highlight the benefits of this exciting new bike.
In the wake of the credit crunch many people are seeking ways to reduce their monthly outgoings, and with no running costs other than an electric charge the X-byke can help commuters do just that. The X-byke requires no insurance, tax, license or MOT, and can be charged up from any mains power supply costing approximately 1.5 pence per mile. They are also congestion charge exempt and can be driven in bus and cycle lanes - perfect for today's urban environment.
Cycle 2008 presented an opportunity for the cycle industry, and members of the public, to find out more about the bike as well as to meet "Boris".
Nick Child, Managing Director of Powabyke Ltd said, "Cycle 2008 at Earls Court was a real success, and as the producer of the world's most innovative electric cycles it was only right that we were there to show people the future of electric-assisted cycling."
"Electric cycles have really come of age. We've been producing them since 1999 and over the years we have been busy developing the technology to create a sleek, lightweight electric bike that's ideal for commuting."
With a modern, smart, lightweight design, the whole bike, complete with battery weighs less than 25kg compared with early electric bikes which weighed close to 40kg. With a sleek frame the new X-byke is easy to lift, store and transport.
The battery is cleverly designed to slot into the water bottle holder and weighs just 2.5kg, allowing the rider to easily carry a spare if required and therefore doubling the range.
For a man who was told he may never walk again, 66 year old Eddie Sedgemore is no stranger to a challenge, and having just completed a tour of the UK on a Powabyke, he's also proved he's got what it takes to be a record breaker.
At 66 years of age, South Gloucestershire resident Eddie Sedgemore is no stranger to a challenge, and in May he will be setting out with the aim of achieving his second Guinness World Record.
Powabyke, the creators of the world’s most innovative electric cycles are proud to unveil the X-byke the very latest innovation in powered cycling designed to benefit commuters and leisure cyclists around the world.
