New Ride / Park and Charge Update
10/07/2006

NewRide

Following on from the launch of Park & Charge in December, we wanted to update you on progress. Park & Charge was launched in support of Camden’s NewRide – an initiative focused on getting more people onto electric bikes and scooters in London.

NewRide is a smart new promotional campaign encouraging alternative ways for commuters to move around Britain’s gridlocked streets on electric vehicles.

At www.newride.org.uk you’ll find everything you need to know about making the switch to clean, green and unbelievably cost-effective powered two-, three- and four-wheel electric transport, whether it’s aboard one of the exciting new generation of electric bikes, trikes, scooters or cars.

NewRide was launched with the support of Transport for London in Camden, one of the capital’s busiest boroughs. It provides a range of benefits to electric vehicle users:

  • Secure parking and charging facilities
  • A network of dealers supporting the vehicles
  • Technical and model advice for potential purchasers through a fully co-ordinated website
  • A chance for local authorities, car parks and businesses to access equipment and facilities in one comprehensive package
  • Link to grants offered by the Energy Saving Trust who will fund between 40% - 60% of the installation costs of a Park & Charge system

Park & Charge’s website is also now live where customers can visit to purchase their smart leads and permits for use in the Park & Charge bays.  The first two in the country are operational in the NCP car parks in Drury Lane and Saffron Hill, with others shortly to follow.  Check www.parkandcharge.com for the location of charging stations.

AWARD WINNERS! - We were delighted that Park & Charge won an award in the EAST Journal’s environmental awards in the Green Transport category. Park & Charge received a trophy and the status of a nationally recognised premier environmental award winner by government and industry. Feedback from the award organisers indicated that the judges found Park & Charge to be a unique system, the first of its type and an excellent prototype that should be rolled out across the UK.

If you or your company is interested in installing a Park & Charge system to encourage more people in your area onto electric vehicles, contact Park & Charge on 01225 448806
