With the recent announcement by Mayor of London Ken Livingstone that the capital could soon see significant investment to create cycling super-highways throughout the city, an electric bike manufacturer believes we are on the dawn of a new era of two-wheeled transport.

With the news that £400million is likely to be invested in ‘super-cycleways’, electric bikes that offer assisted cycling are fast becoming an even more attractive and viable prospect to the average commuter.

A study of electric cycle users by Leeds University and Powabyke found that many families were replacing a second car with electric cycles as a cost effective, greener alternative using them to replace car journeys, commuting to work and everyday journeys. The average user covers an average of 1,200 miles per annum, compared to the average of 120 miles that a non-electric bike does.
